Stoves | Small Ovens (Ornos Peqnenos)

These ovens are little more than a small metal box that can be set on top of the plancha and used for baking a variety of cakes and breads. Simple recipes and preparations are taught by Peace Corps Volunteers. Using common ingredients that are available in nearly every market in Guatemala, they can easily turn out banana bread, carrot cake, baked potatoes and numerous other items. Each woman gives about Q1.75 ($0.20) as their part of the contribution for the ingredients.

Everyone then participates in the preparation. The women are amazed at the wonderful things they can bake so easily. This also adds important nutritious elements to their diet in a form that everyone in the family enjoys.
