Many celebrations with elaborate decorations, parades and parties are an important part of the Guatemalan culture. These include celebrations for Children’s Day, Day of the Dead, Mother’s Day, Semana Santa (Easter week), Christmas, Cinco de Mayo, etc. For these celebrations it is tradition to decorate with flowers, wreathes, and pictures. Here we teach the women to make decorations out of available materials. Working together to make the paper flowers, plastic wreathes, and string streamers is also an important social time for the women.
